Pancasila Economics is a project we started in the year 2023. We are Marcus Marktanner and Andin Dhea
Ardita. Between May 2023 and May 2024, Marcus spent a year on leave from Kennesaw State University at
Universitas Prasetiya Mulya. During this time, Andin became deeply involved in Marcus' research, working
on data analysis and web programming. Enjoying their work and team chemistry, they eventually decided to
stay connected in research by creating a Pancasila Economics website.
Marcus first visited Indonesia in 2011 at the invitation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a prominent
German political think tank with offices around the world, including Indonesia since 1968. Since then,
Marcus has visited Indonesia regularly once a year. Since his first visit, Marcus has been fascinated by
Indonesia's economic history in general and the Pancasila economy in particular.
Why is that? There are very few countries in the world that are committed to a particular economic
philosophy. Germany and Indonesia are two such rare examples. Germany is guided by the social market
economy and Indonesia by the Pancasila economy.
Marcus' participation in many seminars organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and its academic and
civil society partners, as well as discussions with participants from academia, politics, and civil
society, has shown that there is great interest in a public discussion about what Pancasila Economics
has been about in the past, what it is about today, and what it should be about in the future.
While we plan to actively grow the website through insights, data and analysis, we also hope to partner
with academia, public policy and civil society. We welcome any collaboration that will contribute to a
better understanding of Indonesia's socio-economic landscape, its challenges, and its economic
opportunities.
Thank you for visiting Pancasila Economics, we hope to meet your expectations.
